Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) received the 2019 Philippine Quality Award (PQA) for Performance Excellence, which is the highest level of national recognition. President Rodrigo Duterte, together with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez, handed over the prestigious award to TMP.
Toyota is truly the country's leading automaker
For a little background, the PQA is a national award program that recognizes the achievements of organizations that strive for quality work. It was institutionalized in 2001 through the signing of Republic Act 9013 and continues to recognize organizations for their excellent performance.
“I am with you in honoring public and public sector organizations who have embodied excellence in their pursuits. I call on all the awardees to continue your work that [redounds] to the benefit of our people,” said President Duterte in the PQA Conferment Ceremony.
This achievement is one for TMP's books
The 2019 PQA award is a significant achievement for the TMP, as it goes down in history as the first automotive manufacturer to receive the honor. Also, the company becomes the second Philippine organization to achieve the highest award at Level 4 in PQA’s 22-year history.
Part of the recognition is TMP’s commitment to providing only the best practices. Through its philosophy called Kaizen, the Japanese automaker managed to stay connected with customers amid the global health crisis. The Kaizen philosophy allowed the company to be a game-changer and serve as a benchmark for other Philippine industries.
The Vios is currently best-selling model in the country
And of course, the country’s leading automotive company credits its Philippine-made units such as the Vios and Innova that have contributed significantly to the award. These two vehicles continue to be the top choices among Filipino families – with the Vios as a small sedan and Innova as a 7-seater MPV.
“The PQA award further inspires us to continue to improve and ultimately help our business become more sustainable, especially with new ventures that we are taking on,” said TMP President Mr. Atsuhiro Okamoto.
