This striking concept is slightly boxy with a dash of sleekness.

Subaru is keen on proving that driving pleasure can be had even as the automotive world takes great strides into fully electric mobility. So at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, the brand showed off the Subaru Sport Mobility Concept - a two-door coupe EV with a striking appearance.

At a glance, the concept car is boxy but doesn’t appear to have much in the way of character lines with most of its exterior surfaces being smooth. An on-looker will also notice how its greenhouse section appears to pop out from an almost flat body.

From the front, the concept features a recessed series of LED lighting pods and a huge blue-colored front vent making the concept reminiscent of the brand’s old rally cars. Eye-catching details are likewise attached to the side of the vehicle and particularly attention-grabbing are its square-shaped wheel arches. These get deep lines around them that are made all the more visible thanks to their blue color.

Subaru wasn’t specific about this, but it looks like those crevices on the wheel fenders can direct air for better aerodynamics. Noticeably absent on the side of the vehicle are visible door handles and traditional side mirrors. The latter is replaced by cameras, presumably for more aerodynamics.

Over to its rear section, the concept gets a chunky lower rear bumper, which again, is made out of exposed carbon fiber. The said material is also used for the concept’s set of wheels.

No details for the interior were shared by the brand, but it did mention that the driver sits low whilst having “good visibility.”

For propulsion, the brand confirmed that the Sport Mobility Concept is an electric vehicle (EV) though no output figures or range numbers were mentioned. But, Subaru did make it clear that it uses an all-wheel-drive layout.

There’s no word on whether the Subaru concept previews a future production model, but we’re guessing that this might be a design study - aka a chance for the car company’s engineer’s designers to show off. Then again, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Sport Mobility Concept managed to influence production cars well into the future.
