The San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Infrastructure is gearing up its toll personnel in response to the Toll Regulatory Board’s (TRB) two-week dry-run for the contactless program.
SMC will participate in TRB's contactless program dry-run next month
The contactless program looks to remove the cash lane in favor of the ETC or RFID lane with the goal to reduce traffic congestion and waiting times at toll plazas.
Motorists without an Autosweep RFID sticker will be allowed to pass but a toll personnel will install an RFID sticker on their vehicle. Toll personnel will only take a photo of the vehicle license and secure the motorist’s mobile phone number. Motorists then have to complete the registration process by supplying other essential information at the Autosweep RFID website.
The program aims to improve traffic situations at toll plazas
The company said motorists who will refuse to have their license plates recorded and tagged may be issued violation tickets for obstructing traffic.
SMC owns expressways including the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, NAIA Expressway (NAIAx), STAR Tollway, and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).
Violators may be fined
On the other hand, expressways under the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) including the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), C5 Link, and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) use an Easytrip RFID.
Autosweep users can reload conveniently reload via e-wallets such as GCash to ensure they have enough balance.
“We support the DOTr’s and the TRB’s move to make toll collection purely cashless. We believe this move will significantly reduce traffic congestion and waiting times at toll plazas and contribute to a smoother and safer travel experience,” said SMC President and CEO (chief executive officer) Ramon S. Ang.
“Our teams are already installing and calibrating RFID scanners and related equipment. We will do everything necessary to ensure that the implementation will go smoothly. If in the course of the dry run period, any adjustments have to be made, we will also be ready,” added Ang.
