New speed limit is for precautionary measures.

The speed limit along the Skyway has been causing confusion to motorists due to the viral post on Facebook featuring enforcers equipped with speed guns. The post also included that the elevated expressway is implementing new speed limits.

Based on the post, the speed limit on Skyway is 80 km/h from Alabang to Makati, 60 km/h from Makati to Quezon City (Skyway Stage 3), and 60 km/h along Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAX).

The indicated speed limits along Skyway Stage 3 and NAIAX are not surprising since that has always been the prescribed limit since it was opened to motorists. San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) Ramon Ang previously clarified that the speed limit on the Skyway Stage 3 is 60 km/h. The said speed limit is necessary for a variable direction lane traffic scheme.

Skyway Stage 3 is implementing a speed limit of 60 km/h

SMC had decided not to use permanent lane dividers in Skyway Stage 3, and used movable ones instead. As such, a car accidentally going the wrong way on the adjusted lane might be kept safer by the 60 km/h speed limit.

Now, the confusion lies on the 80 km/h speed limit on Skyway from Alabang to Makati. Based on the Toll Regulatory Board’s official website, the prescribed speed limit on Skyway Stage 1 & 2 (Alabang to Makati) is 100 km/h for cars or Class 1 vehicles. With that, motorists are sort of confused as to why did the Skyway management decide to reduce it to 80 km/h.

Philkotse.com reached out to the Skyway management to find out what is really the prescribed speed limit along the elevated expressway (Alabang to Makati). According to the management, the speed limit on Skyway (Alabang to Makati) is temporarily set at 80 km/h.

The management decided to reduce the speed limit from 100 km/h to 80 km/h due to the construction works along the said elevated toll road, which includes the ongoing construction of the Skyway Extension. As of this writing, the 80 km/h speed limit along Skyway will be effective until the construction works are completed. This is to ensure the safety of the motorists who are driving along the elevated expressway.
