The Nissan Silvia is without a doubt one of the most iconic cars the said marque has ever made. It first came out as the Silvia CSP311 way back in 1965, and throughout the years, it has become a gem in the eyes of many car enthusiasts the world over. The last release was the Silvia S15, with the line discontinued altogether in 2002.
Vice President of Nissan Design Europe Matthey Weaver's rendering of the Silvia EV
Recently, Vice President of Nissan Design Europe Matthey Weaver released a 3D rendered model depicting the modern version of the Silvia. This was followed by a report from Japanese publication Best Car saying that Nissan might be resurrecting the long-dead nameplate. The report also implied that this was prompted by the aforementioned 3D render.
The render mostly takes inspiration from the first-generation CSP311 Silvia. This is evident from its round double headlamps, as well as the clear-cut body lines dividing the lower and upper portions of the car. And yes, it is indeed a two-door coupe.
Interestingly, the source is saying that this future model will utilize a purely electric powertrain, which explains the apparent lack of a grille on the 3D model.
The first-generation CSP311 Nissan Silvia
For now, nothing is known yet about the upcoming new Silvia’s mechanicals, though we are very curious whether Nissan will build this thing using an existing Nissan electric car platform, a sports car platform converted to accommodate an EV system, or a whole new platform entirely.
Regarding release dates, the source said that this future Silvia EV model will be seeing the light of day sometime around 2025. Until then, it would be a good idea to take all rumors surrounding this project with a healthy dose of skepticism.
