Suzuki S-Presso gets improved safety rating

The one that was tested now has two airbags.

Younwill recall that in 2021, the Suzuki S-Presso underwent crash testing under the Global New Car Assessment Program. During that time, the said city car didn’t exactly do well as it garnered a zero-star crash safety rating. Recently though, it underwent the same test and it managed to get a decent three-star rating.

As you might have guessed, Suzuki worked to improve the S-Presso's safety kit in order to make this happen.

Of note, the previous S-Presso rated zero at stars only had one airbag for the Indian market. This single airbag version however was already discontinued by Suzuki as of April 2022. The one that was tested recently is the new and improved S-Presso, now equipped with two airbags. In this vein, this version is now more similar to the S-Presso version that is currently sold in the Philippine market.

For adult occupant safety, the new test for the Suzuki S-Presso resulted in three stars. For child occupant protection meanwhile, the said model managed to get two stars.

To interpret this, the S-Presso now provides enough protection for the driver and the front passenger’s neck and head. It didn’t manage to get a higher rating though, due to the fact that knee protection was marginal, and chest protection was found lacking.

Likewise, the S-Presso also provided poor and weak protection to a child’s head and chest respectively. It was also found out by the Global NCAP that the bodyshell integrity of the S-Presso was unstable.

For a car of this price, a 3-star safety rating, at least for adults, isn't half bad. But hopefully, Suzuki can further improve this in the future.

If you’re curious about the S-Presso, the Philippine-spec model is currently available in two different trims: the S-Presso GL 1.0 MT w/ Alloy Wheels priced at Php 563,000, and the S-Presso GL 1.0 Special Edition MT priced at Php 588,000.
