Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is now the fastest EV at Laguna Seca

The previous lap record belonged to the Tesla Model S Plaid.

While the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is yet to be released by the German sportscar maker, it has already set another record-smashing lap time at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California, USA.

Of note, Porsche attained this lap record with the Taycan Turbo GT which was modified using the brand’s Weissach Package. As per the brand, this package eliminates the vehicle’s rear seats and replaces some exterior bits with carbon fiber. This results in better weight savings.

At Laguna Seca, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package managed to get a time of one minute and 27.87 seconds (1:27.87)  while being piloted by development driver Lars Kern. This version of the Taycan electric vehicle, thus claims the title of the “fastest electric series-production car” on the said raceway.

For reference, the previous car to have held that title on Laguna Seca was set by the Tesla Model S Plaid at one minute and 30.3 seconds (1:30.3).

The Taycan Turbo GT now has EV lap records for two world-famous race tracks

On top of that, Porsche revealed that the previously unnamed Taycan “Pre-Series” version which achieved a lap record of seven minutes and 07.55 seconds (7:07.55) in Germany’s Nurburgring is actually a pre-production version of the Taycan Turbo GT. So on that note, Porsche now holds two lap records on two major global race tracks for four-door EVs.

Porsche credits the Taycan Turbo GT’s smashing track performance to its combination of lightweight construction, aerodynamic design, and powerful but efficient motors.

Under regular settings, the Taycan Turbo GT can generate up to 777 horsepower. With launch control activated, that power figure is bumped up to 1,019 hp. Peak power can then reach up to 1,092 hp.

Plus, it also has an “Attack Mode” which adds 160 hp worth of temporary power for 10 seconds. Thanks to this, the Taycan Turbo GT is capable of sprinting from zero to 100 km/h in just 2.2 seconds. With the Weissach Package though, this upcoming Porsche EV can do zero to 100 km/h in a blistering 2.1 seconds.

Higher torque figures of up to 1,340 Nm are likewise achieved by this Taycan variant thanks to a revised transmission ratio and a more durable gearbox.

As mentioned above, the Taycan Turbo GT is yet to be launched but Porsche says that it will come with a starting price of $230,000 (around Php 12.700 million at current exchange rates) before taxes and other fees. The brand added that the Weissach Package will be sold as well.

The all-new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT will then be launched in the United States sometime around June to August (summer).

With all that said, should Philippine Porsche distributor PGA Cars, Inc. bring in this monster of an EV?
