If you’ve been following traffic and car related social media lately, then you’ll have noticed the several viral videos of reckless motorcyclists on public roads. The most recent which gained the most notoriety is of course the very dangerous street race between three motorcycle riders that took place in Zamboanga on September 4. And if you’ve watched the said video, then you’ll know that this race did indeed result in a crash.
The start of the street race in question
To this end, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is reminding motorists to follow the prevailing road rules in order to avoid putting themselves and others in danger. For that matter, the PNP is urging the public to report these erring riders to the right authorities as this might help deter this kind of behavior in the future.
Of note, the aforementioned motorcycle riders engaged in that street race in Zamboanga have already been identified. Moreover, their driver’s licenses were already confiscated for their alleged violation of the Republic Act 4136, otherwise known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code. A show cause order was then released for the three riders.

As of September 14, it was also decided by the LTO Region IX (Zamboanga) office to revoke the three violator’s driver’s licenses as they were indeed found guilty of reckless driving as defined by RA 4136.
A couple of weeks ago, two officers of the PNP were also caught performing “stunts” on public roads. This instance was also reported, and so the two officers that were involved were already penalized.
In a more recent case, a motorcycle rider here in Metro Manila was taken performing a hard leaning maneuver on a public road. That was before performing a very tight overtake. This certain video was posted by Visor as a concrete example of not what to do as a rider. As expected, many commenters were incensed by this blatant display of reckless motorcycle riding, and many were already mentioning sending plate numbers to the PNP.
