Panguil Bay Bridge Project now 69 percent complete

At this rate, DPWH says that it will be completed by June 2024.

The Panguil Bay Bridge Project is now at 69 percent. This is according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) which on May 9, 2023, had paid the said project a visit for inspection.

Panguil Bay Bridge is now 69 percent complete

Present during the inspection of the project were DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, DPWH Unified Project Management Office-Roads Management Cluster 2 Project Director Sharif Madsmo H. Hasim, Stakeholders Relations Service Director Randy R. Del Rosario, Project managers Teresita V. Buazon and Marlon v. Galerio, as well as District Engineer Maria B. David. 

In Sadain’s report, it was stated that at this rate, the Panguil Bay Project would likely reach 90 percent completion by December 2023. It may then assume a full operational status by June 2024. That is if prevailing weather conditions will be agreeable.  

Once completed, this Php 7.37 billion project will cut down travel times between Tangub City in Misamis Occidental and Tubod in Lanao del Norte to just 7 minutes. Currently, it takes up to 2.5 hours for the said trip. Furthermore, the Panguil Bay Bridge will also eliminate the need to use the roll-on-roll-off barge if traveling between Ozamiz City and Mukas Port, Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte.  

Its completion is likewise projected to enhance economic growth for the surrounding provinces. Specifically, it will significantly aid in goods transport. It is also predicted to help in reducing traffic congestion on nearby roads, and it will likewise boost the tourism industry for the region as well.

The completed Panguil Bay Bridge offers plenty of advantages for nearby regions

In total, the bridge itself will span 320 meters long while featuring two lanes. Supporting its main structure are a pair of high-strength stay cables coated with high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Each end of the bridge will then feature approach bridge sections which are 1.38 kilometers and 1.47 kilometers long, respectively.
