Once finished, travel between BGC and Ortigas will just take 12 minutes.

Even in the midst of the third ECQ and the pandemic, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reported that the viaduct section linking the Kalayaan Bridge to Bonifacio Global City (BGC) will be completed by September.

Work on the viaduct section continues

The said viaduct is part of the BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link Project, which aims to deliver faster travel times and alternative routes to and from the two largest business centers in Metro Manila.

And yes, this can also serve as another route parallel to EDSA and so it might serve to lessen the traffic on the said road. Furthermore, crossing to BGC from Pasig before only allowed one to reach up to Kalayaan ave. The new viaduct will make crossing from Pasig to 8th avenue possible, and vice versa.

Previously, the DPWH was unable to provide a concrete timetable for the said project due to the pandemic. But this time around, the aforementioned government agency along with the Persan Construction Incorporated as a contractor, has accelerated their efforts to hit the September target date.

The Undersecretary for the Unified Project Management Office Operations (UPMO) Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain also shared that the deck slabs for the main viaduct are already installed. Currently, they are following that up with the deck slab reinforcements, as well as sidewalks, and parapet reinforcements.

Undersecretary Sadain further added that everyone directly involved in the project is following the proper health and safety protocols.

For those unaware, the BGC-Ortigas Road Link Project stretches 1.481 kilometers and consists of the recently opened Kalayaan bridge, and the new and improved sections on Lawton Avenue, Fairlane Street, and Brixton Street.

Once open, we can also expect it to help reduce the travel time from BGC to Ortigas Center and vice versa to just 12 minutes. The said trip takes up to an hour when using the currently available routes.
