Spanning 2.55 kilometers long, this section of the NLEX-SLEX Connector starts at España Boulevard and ends at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Once it opens to the public, this thoroughfare will link Manila Skyway Stage 3 together with the España Boulevard interchange.

This statement regarding the structure’s current status was issued after it was examined by DPWH engineers and officials on October 17, 2023. Spearheading the said inspection was DPWH Undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnership Services Maria Catalina E. Cabral.

According to the agency, a total of 1.84 kilometers of the 4-lane thoroughfare is already finished. This includes the on and off-ramp at the España Boulevard. Meanwhile, work is still ongoing for the entry and exit ramps positioned at Magsaysay Boulevard. The targeted completion for this project, according to DPWH, is within the fourth quarter of 2023.

Cabral further added that the agency is making sure that construction activities and the acquisition of right-of-way for the road are on schedule. This way, motorists, especially trucks, will see faster travel times between the southern and northern parts of Luzon as soon as possible.

“With construction activities on track for the final section, around 35,000 mixed vehicular traffic including heavy vehicles traveling per day from SLEX to NLEX will soon enjoy reduced logistical costs brought by shorter travel time from the current two (2) hours to just 20 minutes,” added Undersecretary Cabral.

As a whole, the NLEX-SLEX Connector road spans 7.70 kilometers. It stretches from the end of NLEX Segment 10 at the Circumferential Road 3 (C-3) in Caloocan City, all the way to Sta. Mesa, Manila where the Manila Skyway Stage 3 ends. Of note, the project is a joint effort between the Manila North Tollways Corporation and the DPWH and thus falls under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Program.
