The new cameras will be helpful in monitoring traffic.

This report comes via Autoindustriya which likewise stated that the 12 new cameras bumps the total number of the toll operator’s CCTV cameras to 163. These monitoring devices are then distributed in key areas along the NLEX Connector, and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).

Note that this project has been coming for the said expressways for a long time. Earlier in March 2023, details for this were mentioned by the toll operator along with its plan to install solar panels on several of its toll plazas

Manning the cameras are NLEX’s traffic control specialists at its Traffic Control Center (TCR). These are capable of providing real-time traffic updates for key sections of the expressways, especially on toll plazas. Furthermore, the cameras are likewise designed to support the company’s traffic and security teams.

Other than the cameras, it was reported that NLEX Corp. also installed variable message signs (VMS) along the NLEX Connector. For those unaware, these are highly visible light-based road signages that can be configured to show different images to convey useful information and safety reminders to road users.

The cameras are placed in strategic locations

With regards to the newly installed equipment, NLEX Corp. President J. Luigi Bautista said that this shows the company’s commitment to “providing a safe and convenient travel experience to the public.” Bautista added that the new equipment also supports the company’s mission of making travel “hassle-free” for anyone using the said toll roads.

Whether some of these new cameras are speed cameras or just regular old CCVTs was not indicated. Regardless, it will always be better to err on the side of caution when driving along these roads. So whether these new cameras are capable of sensing a car's speed or not, driving within the speed limit will always be the safer choice.
