Get aboard the next-gen pickup truck hype train.

The next generation Mitsubishi Strada will be launched sometime in 2023.  This was indicated on the brand’s 2023 financial report, specifically under its “Challenge 2025” mid-year business plan.

A report from Malaysia-based automotive news outlet Paul Tan, further stated that the upcoming all-new pickup truck will specifically come out in Thailand in July of this year.

Note that the next-gen Strada, or Triton in other markets, was previewed by the XRT Concept that was shown off at the 2023 Bangkok Motor Show in March. A short video of the said concept truck was also shown off by Mitsubishi Philippines at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) back in April.

From what we can gather, the next-gen Strada is still a potent off-road-capable platform. After all, the brand says the XRT concept that the next-gen Strada will be based on is slated to enter the grueling 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) that's scheduled to run from August 13 to 19, 2023.

For those curious as to how the XRT looks, then it comes with an all-new design sporting a squared-off front fascia with sharp LED daytime running lamps, and a larger and flatter grille. The side of the XRT concept then sports larger windows. It also looks like it comes with a larger and longer cargo bed, while its rear-end then shows larger taillights.

Not much was shared by Mitsubishi about the next-gen Strada’s inner workings for now. But according to Paul Tan, it is speculated that it is getting a new turbodiesel engine paired with a new automatic gearbox.

Note that the next-gen Strada is one of the five internal combustion models Mitsubishi plans to launch sometime from 2023 to 2025. The four other models are the new Delica Mini kei car, the XFC crossover, and two yet-to-be-named crossover SUVs.

Meanwhile, a chunk of the brand’s upcoming models are “new energy” vehicles. Renault and Nissan will launch one model each. Remember that both of these are Mitsubishi’s co-brands under the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The other upcoming Mitsubishi models include a hybrid version of the Xpander, a hybrid kei car, the next-gen Outlander plug-in hybrid, the next-gen ASX, and the Colt hatchback.
