From the get-go, Mendoza is promising significant changes for LTO, particularly faster and more efficient services. He aims to get the job done as soon as possible so operations in the next five years would be flawless.

Mendoza said he will address various concerns surrounding the agency including the driver’s license plastic card shortage and motor vehicle plate backlogs.

The latest development was the plan to deliver one million plastic cards in the next two months. It is made possible through Banner Plasticard, Inc., which has been tasked to produce the plastic cards. The new cards will be distributed to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and new driver’s license applicants first.

According to LTO, the driver’s card shortage should normalize by September 2023. It looks to distribute 130,000 unissued cards to motorists within the next two months.

Meanwhile, the agency received at least 108,400 motor vehicle plates at the Plate Making Plant in LTO Central, Quezon City earlier this month. The supplier is committed to producing a minimum of 60,000 MV plates weekly, addressing the long-time backlog. Motorists who have not received their plates can follow the new format for a temporary and improvised plate.

“Let’s not wait five years, ang aking laging iniisip kung magagawa natin bukas bakit pa natin hihintayan ang next week? Gawin na natin ang magagawa natin ngayon,” said Asec. Mendoza.

(Let’s not wait five years. I always think that if we can do it today, why should we wait for next week? Let’s do what we can do today.)

Mendoza has succeeded Atty. Jay Art Tugade, who stepped down after six months in the office. Atty. Hector Villacorta was temporarily assigned as the LTO chief for a brief moment before Mendoza took over.
