MMDA’s motorcycle riding academy to open on September 27

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that its Motorcycle Riding Academy (MRA) will open on September 27, offering free training to all interested individuals.

The MMDA’s MRA is located along Meralco Avenue in Pasig City, utilizing the vacant property of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS). The MRA is said to provide riders with formal training on both theoretical and practical aspects of motorcycle riding.

The MRA aims to give riders basic training on handling motorcycles as well as discussing the importance of road courtesy, discipline, and following traffic rules. The academy will also be providing participants with basic emergency response training. 

“Hopefully, we can change the mindset of motorcycle rider-graduates of this academy and make them disciplined motorists,” MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes said.

The MMDA will be providing the motorcycles as well as the gasoline for individuals who will enroll in the MRA. The agency clarified that riders only need to bring their own helmets and personal protective gear.  

Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) donated motorcycle units to the MMDA, which will be used for the agency’s motorcycle riding academy. HPI initially donated 21 motorcycles to the MMDA. The brand will also be handing over an additional 29 motorcycle units for MMDA’s motorcycle riding academy.

HPI will also be providing technical assistance to trainers or instructors of the agency’s MRA. HPI, through the Honda Safety Driving Center, will provide comprehensive training programs for the MMDA’s traffic enforcers and instructors on reinforcing safe and responsible road user behavior.    

Senator Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara also donated 10 motorcycles to the MMDA, showing his support for the agency’s MRA. Meanwhile, reports state that Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has also donated 10 motorcycles to the MMDA.

The MMDA said that the MRA can accommodate 100 participants per batch. The academy will also come with a clinic, comfort and shower rooms, and dining areas, which can be used by the participants who will avail of the two-day training for free. Participants will also be given certificates upon completion of lectures, practical applications, and basic emergency response courses.
