The Mitsubishi Delica Mini may not have won the top accolade at the Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY) awards but it has been voted as the 2023-2024 Design Car of the Year. This marks the first time for Mitsubishi Motors to win the said award.
Mitsubishi Delica Mini
The JCOTY is now in its 44th year, and it is organized and run by representatives from 39 of Japan’s most influential automotive and lifestyle publications who select the 60 jurors each year.
The Delica Mini’s distinctive exterior and interior design won the hearts of the organizing committee. Its “cute and attractive look” makes it a standout vehicle as per the JCOTY jurors, and we can’t help but agree as the Delica Mini was among the vehicles that caught our attention during the Japan Mobility Show.
The Delica Mini is a kei car, and it is currently sold in Japan only. It is based on the concept of being a pint-size vehicle that’s reliable and ready for adventure. Mitsubishi combines rugged SUV styling and a sizeable interior for a small car.
Pint-sized yet distinctive
The front end is dominated by Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design along with sharp-looking LED headlights, LED fog lamps, and a beefy-looking bumper. It also has prominent wheel arches that are finished in glossy back while the rear gets a muscular bumper integrated with a faux skid plate.
Inside, the Mitsubishi Delica Mini has a straightforward yet modern-looking cabin. It can accommodate up to four individuals, and the seats feature a water-repellent sheet fabric that makes it ready for any adventure. The said Mitsu kei car also has driver assistance technology such as lane departure warning, collision mitigation braking, automatic high beam, and forward collision warning, among others.
Straightforward dashboard layout
The Delica Mini is powered by a 0.660-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that delivers 63 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
