British car brand Mini has stepped into the realm of electrification as it has taken the covers off the all-new fully-electric Mini Cooper and Countryman. Both join the brand’s lineup as emissions-free alternatives to their internal combustion counterparts while promising the same level of go-kart-like handling and practicality.

Propelling the Mini Cooper E three-door hatchback base model is an electric powertrain that’s able to generate up to 184 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. The higher-spec SE’s powertrain meanwhile, can churn out 218 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque.

In turn, the Countryman E crossover features a powertrain that’s good for 204 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Its higher-spec SE version can then generate up to 313 horsepower and 494 Nm of torque. Of note, both crossover variants are all-wheel-drive.

The electric-powered Cooper is expected to be quick on its feet, while the Countryman is ready for adventures

The fully-electric Cooper E provides a range of 305 kilometers, while the higher-spec Cooper SE gets a bit more at 402 km. The Countryman E meanwhile, offers a range of 462 km, while the Countryman SE has a slightly shorter range of 433 km. These figures are based on the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).

In terms of appearance, both cars lean more towards sleek simplicity. Both feature LED headlamps and Matrix LED taillights, a closed-off front grille, roof-mounted spoilers, and relatively flat side sections.

The five-door Countryman E is of course a bit larger than the Cooper E. It also gets more in the way of ground clearance, and it sports a pair of roof rails as well. Interestingly, the smaller EV likewise gets some black plastic claddings all around.

Next to the Cooper, the Countryman is huge

Inside the Cooper and Countryman EVs are interiors that mirror the minimalism of their exterior design. Both feature a 240mm diameter, round-shaped OLED central display which boasts the brand’s new Operating System 9 that provides seamless operation via touch and voice. These new Mini EVs also use a variety of recycled materials for their dashboards and interior door cards.

According to Mini, the Countryman SE in particular is the roomiest version of the model to date. It is 60mm taller and 130mm longer than the older model, which makes it more appealing for those who want to take it out on adventures.

For now, the prices for these all-new Mini EV models are yet to be released by the brand.
