The SAIC-owned company has showcased the following In its massive booth: the Cyberster all-electric sports car, the MG3 hybrid-electric hatchback, the MG4 EV XPOWER, MG ZS EV, MG G50 MPV, MG7, MG RX9, and the all-new IM LS7 fully-electric crossover.

MG Cyberster

First off, the MG Cyberster officially made its first public debut at this year’s MIAS. This comes after its initial exclusive preview back in 2023.

On the outside, this MG EV assumes a convertible body style enhanced by a long sport hood, fabric roof, 20-inch wheels, and scissor doors. Inside, the vehicle gets a leather-clad interior colored in Burgundy red.

As expected of an EV, it also gets loads of tech, specifically an infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital gauge cluster, and advanced driver-assist safety features (ADAS).

Power-wise, the MG Cyberster’s twin electric motor powertrain can dish out 536 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque. It also has an EV range of 446 km, as the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) indicates.

At the 2024 MIAS, MG PH revealed that the Cyberster will retail at around Php 4,500,000.

IM LS7

Previewed at the 2024 MIAS is the all-new IM LS7. According to the brand, this crossover will “enter the market very soon.”

At a glance, the LS7 has a sleek exterior with loads of features. The most notable is a very wide windshield dubbed the “Starfall windshield.” It also gets powered frameless doors, as well as double-layer laminated windows. The former enhances its aerodynamic exterior styling and provides an effective buffer from exterior noise.

The interior of the LS7 is likewise filled to the brim with advanced technologies namely a 42-inch triple screen setup, a total of 24 speakers, and the brand’s Evolvable Intelligent Driving Assistance System (EIDAS).

The EIDAS comprises 11 high-definition cameras, three wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and many other systems. This powers a high-tech navigation system that can assist the driver in challenging road scenarios.

At maximum, the LS7’s electric powertrain can dish out 560 hp and 725 Nm of torque. It also boasts an estimated driving range of 530 km from a single full charge.

MG3

The MG3 hatchback will be the latest to join the brand’s local lineup. For now, no pricing or specs were indicated for this car, but it comes in a nifty hatchback package that the brand says will do great for first-time car owners.

According to the brand, this will be its first hybrid within its stable of rides, and it’ll likely compete against the Suzuki Swift, Toyota Wigo, Honda Brio, and other locally available hatchback models.

MG ZS EV

There’s also the fully electric version of the MG ZS for those wanting a crossover EV. At first glance, this all-new EV model gets the same silhouette as its internal combustion sibling, albeit it gets a closed-off grille typical of fully electric models. Like the MG3 Hybrid, the MG PH didn’t disclose the pricing for this version of the ZS so stay tuned for that.

MG4 EV XPOWER

Yet another fully electric car MG PH showed off at 2024 MIAS is the MG4 EV XPOWER. We’ve driven the MG4 STD and Luxe trims before, but this is a different beast with a significantly more powerful tune.

MG4 EV XPOWER

MG4 EV XPOWER

The MG4 EV XPOWER still assumes the guise of a 5-door hatchback, but its electric motors can output up to 429 hp. Thanks to this, the brand says it can do zero to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Again, this model was previewed at MIAS, but it's another exciting EV that many performance enthusiasts might look forward to.

MG G50

Finally, MG PH is now getting a new three-row MPV. The model in question is the MG G50 based on the Maxus G50, hence its name.

Like the G50, it has an expansive interior with captain’s chairs, leather upholstery, a digital gauge cluster, and a 12-inch central infotainment screen.

Propelling this family-friendly ride is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its powertrain can put out 169 hp and 250 Nm of torque at maximum.

Pricing for this MPV is yet to be announced. But once it rolls out for the Philippines, it’ll likely face the likes of the Toyota Innova.

MG7

Another sports car that’ll likely catch the attention of performance nuts is the MG7. This is also a preview, but it's a sedan model that is touted to balance driving excitement and sporty handling.

MG says its 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine can push out 257 hp. The company has yet to share its price and exact launch date.

MG RX9

Last but not least is the RX9 midsize crossover SUV. It isn’t out yet, so the brand has yet to share its complete specs and prices. It is poised as a “sporty” option thanks to its 230-horsepower inline-4 gasoline engine.

Our Take

It is plain to see that MG is accelerating its shift towards electric mobility. That, of course, is admirable, but it seems that the company isn’t content with rolling out run-of-the-mill mass-market EV models. Instead, they decided to go ham on performance as well.

That point is quite apparent with the MG Cyberster and the MG4 EV XPOWER. Both cars, in a way, are true to the history of MG as a brand, which for those unaware, was making quick and agile roadsters nearly a hundred years ago in Britain.
