In particular, the MG electric vehicle model was praised by the awarding group’s panel of judges for its affordable price. “The MG 4 is very well priced, yet this hasn’t been achieved by cutting corners,” Said What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford.

The team likewise found that its UK-spec XPower variant was peppy as it was capable of zero to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. And despite being a sporty “hot hatch,” the judges found that it remained practical for family use.

Apart from the MG 4 EV hatchback the same publication also gave the MG5 EV as the “Best Electric Estate” and the MG ZS EV as the “Best Electric SUV for Value.” Like the MG EV4, these two EVs each received the same respective awards from 2023.

Of note, the MG 4 EV is already available in the Philippines. It was launched back in October 2023 alongside the MG Marvel R crossover.

For the Philippine-spec version of the MG 4 EV, it gets two options: the STD and the Lux. For the STD, its 51-kWh battery and motor produce up to 168 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque torque. The higher-spec Lux meanwhile, uses a 64 kWh motor combo that outputs 203 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.

Besides their relatively peppy powertrains, the Philippine-spec MG 4 EV gets a tech-heavy interior and plenty of advanced driver-assistive (ADAS) features.

Price-wise, the MG 4 EV STD retails at Php 1,468,888, while the top-spec MG 4 EV Lux retails at Php 1,738,888.

The MG 4 EV is the most competitively priced model within its segment. It undercuts even the Nissan LEAF, which is touted as the most affordable Japanese-branded EV in the country. But despite its affordability, the MG 4 is a sporty ride that’s filled to the brim with features. It has an especially tight turning radius that one should experience via a test drive. Its one weakness though, is the lack of color options since it only has three.
