Motorists can now renew their vehicle registration online

Motor vehicle owners who are wary of long lines when updating their vehicle’s registration now have an alternative, as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced that registration renewal can now be done online.

According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Jose Arturo Tugade, this will help motorists avoid queues at the agency’s various district offices. The procedure can be done anywhere as long as the vehicle owner has an active internet connection and an existing account with the LTO’s Land Transport Management System (LTMS).

Online registration renewal will be done through the LTMS, and this service is available to those who have previously renewed their vehicle’s registration via the portal. The agency notes that transactions for registration renewal done through the LTMS will only take from five to 10 minutes.

However, Tugade clarified that the entire vehicle registration renewal need not be rushed in a single day, to avoid stressing out motorists.

Vehicles must first undergo inspection at PMVICs and secure a CTPL prior to online renewal

“If your plate number ends in 3, you have the whole month to get your choice of insurance coverage, have your vehicle inspected in any PMVIC (Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center) near you, and access the LTMS portal for the online renewal,” he explained. “There’s no need for vehicle owners to spend a whole day renewing the registration of their vehicles.”

Meanwhile, motorists who will be updating their vehicle registration online for the first time will need to go to any LTO district office, where the agency’s personnel will assist with the web-based transaction. The vehicle owner can then proceed with the online registration renewal on their own the following year when the vehicle’s details will have been reflected in the system.

Tugade reiterates that those availing of the online registration renewal need to secure a certificate of coverage for the compulsory third-party liability (CTPL) insurance to be chosen by the vehicle owner, as well as proof that the vehicle has undergone the requisite inspection at an accredited PMVIC.  

“Both the validated and the motor vehicle inspection report (MVIR) will be electronically sent to the LTMS,” he said.
