The DOTr Secretary is impressed with the project so far.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has recently conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project. During the said inspection, Transport Secretary Jaime Bautisa has found that the project is “fast-taking shape” and is expected to be operational by September 2024.

More specifically, Secretary Bautista visited the Dr. Santos and Ninoy Aquino Stations. It was during that time that the DOTr made arrangements with the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) to make sure that the extension project sees a timely completion.

Secretary Bautista even went on to say that he was “impressed with the status of the project.” He also concluded that the project is on track.

At the moment, the Dr. Santos LRT-1 station now has a progress rate of 48 percent. Likewise, the Ninoy Aquino Station has a 34 percent progress rate. The Redemptorist station in turn is seeing a progress rate of 30 percent. Of note, these stations are located in Parañaque City.

The Asia World and MIA Stations located in Pasay City are also seeing around 37 percent and 35 percent rates respectively.

Once completed, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension will be 11.7 kilometers long. It will also feature a total of eight stations. This joint venture project between the DOTr and the Light Rail Transit Authority also provides better access between Bacoor, Cavite and Parañaque City.

It is slated to open in 2024

Travel times between Baclaran and Bacoor will also be cut down to just 25 minutes thanks to the said project. Currently, this journey takes about an hour.

According to the DOTr, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is also capable of servicing 500,000 to 800,000 passengers every day.

With all that said, better access to these locations will further spur economic growth in the region. It is also expected that job and business opportunities will increase around the areas of the eight LRT-1 Cavite Extension stations.
