The Korean carmaker will be filling all numbers from EV1 to EV9.

Kia is now looking to expand its electric vehicle (EV) lineup by launching a new Kia Picanto-sized model and a Stonic-sized model.

This was revealed by the UK-based publication Autocar which likewise shared that a total of 15 new Kia electric-powered models will be introduced to the global market by the end of 2027. This includes several ones on the brand’s “EV” lineup of vehicles.

The said report went on to quote Kia Europe marketing chief David Hilbert who noted that the company’s EV brand will “have coverage in all major segments.” Specifically, this hints at filling in all the numbers from EV1 to EV9

To further speculate on this, the EV1 might become the smallest car in the brand’s EV line of electric cars, filling in a role similar to how the Picanto is in the brand’s combustion-powered portfolio. A model sized similarly to the Stonic might then assume the EV3 name in the near future.

Current models in the Korean carmaker’s EV line of cars currently include the EV6 compact crossover and the flagship EV9 midsize crossover. An upcoming model based on the EV5 concept will then slot below the EV6 the report says.

The upcoming production version of the EV5 will be initially launched in China and then in Europe. According to the report, particular focus is given to the latter market as the marque aims to grow its EV sales in the said continent by a third within the next seven years.

There’s also the fact that many European countries including the UK are looking to impose a total ban on combustion engines in the coming years. As such having a strong lineup of EV models will help in that regard.

The Kia EV6 was launched for the Philippine market back in March 2023

The Philippine market meanwhile, might also see the local launch of these EV1 to EV9 models as well. Kia Philippines after all, has its own program for promoting sustainable mobility, and do remember that the EV6 was launched locally this year. The question now is when.

As with most speculations, do take what was said here with a healthy dose of salt. And if you want more updates on Kia’s future EV plans, keep it here on Philkotse
