Jeep, a brand typically known for combustion-powered SUVs, is now going all-out in the electric route. The automaker bared a comprehensive plan for its next-generation battery electric vehicles (BEVs) under the 4xe range, led by three upcoming models including the Jeep Recon.
Jeep 4xe Day: Freedom is Electric
“Driven by the success of our electrified 4xe portfolio in North America and Europe, we are designing and developing the most capable and sustainable Jeep SUVs to date, on our path to becoming the leading zero-emission SUV brand in the world,” said Jeep brand CEO Christian Meunier.
One of the first all-new electric SUVs that will premiere in the North American market, the Recon is positioned towards adventure seekers. It has been designed to be a 100-percent zero-emissions Jeep vehicle, and as such will be offered exclusively as a BEV.
Underneath the Jeep Recon's mass is an all-electric powertrain
Features that have been standard equipment on Jeep models for years will be present on the Recon as well. These include removable doors and glass similar to the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator, the latest generation Uconnect infotainment system, and a Selec-Terrain Traction Management System offered on Trail Rated trim levels.
Even the spun-off Wagoneer premium model will also be getting an electric powertrain. Codenamed the Wagoneer S, it will come with a sleeker interpretation of the current Wagoneer’s exterior design, featuring LEDs on the the seven-slat grille. The Wagoneer S will pack 600 horsepower, enabling it to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.5 seconds with a total range of 644 kilometers on a single charge.
The Jeep Wagoneer S sports a streamlined version of the current model's design
Jeep will take preorders for the Recon and Wagoneer S in early 2023, with production commencing in 2024. Both models will be sold in major markets worldwide, including Europe.
The Old Continent will also be the stage where Jeep unleashes the all-new Avenger, previously hinted at earlier this year.
The Jeep Avenger will be the electric version of the current Renegade for overseas markets
Positioned under the Renegade series, the subcompact electric crossover boasts an electric range of 400 kilometers, a spacious and modern interior for passengers and cargo, and off-road attributes such as impressive ground clearance. The Avenger debuts at the Paris Motor Show in October, arriving in showrooms by 2023.
