The brand continues to empower the youth.

Honda may be known for its timeless cars like the Civic but the brand is also active in giving back to the community. Through its partnership with the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) honored young scientists and innovators from science high schools.

The young scientists and innovators who were honored were part of the 6th cycle of the imake.wemake:create.innovate.collaborate contest. It featured the projects of 20 finalists selected from 89 schools that participated in the program.

The goal of the contest is to promote creative and collaborative mindsets among students by “enabling them to solve actual problems in their communities or achieve a particular purpose using critical thinking, experimentation, risk analysis, engineering, and technical skills.”

Held at Crimson Hotel, Alabang, Muntinlupa, the three schools mentioned below each received the Youth Innovation Award at the Final Presentation and Awarding Ceremony:

  • Cavite Science Integrated School – “Project Kalinga: Geolocation Estimation of Forest Activities Using Triangulation and Sound Classification.”
  • Philippine Science High School – CALABAZON Region Campus – “SAMGIOP: Development of an IoT-based Sensory Device for Leaf Damage and Abiotic Factors in Cabbage.”
  • Vinzons Pilot High School – “E-QUIA: Remotely Operated Electrostatic Collector of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Microplastics in Freshwater Environment.”

“May our young Filipino innovators continue to become bearers of hope for the country, and never give up trying to help solve different problems through technology and innovation,” said HCPI Atty. Louie Serrano.

“Always remember that you can dream big dreams and that you have the power to realize a better life for your family and your communities,” added Atty. Soriano.

Earlier this year, HCPI also nurtured the youth by rolling out a road safety program made possible through its partner, AEISEC in the Philippines (AIESEC). Attended by 24 student leaders, the program educated the young regarding road safety, and the company also championed its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), Honda Sensing.
