CTEK’s CS Free Kit is a safer, easier alternative to jump-starting

If you don’t want to accidentally fry your car’s electronics, this is a good option.

Swedish battery management company CTEK has released a product for the Philippine market that will make jump-starting a car easier and safer.

CTEK CS Free

The CTEK CS Free in action

Dubbed CS Free, this high-tech tool kit is an intelligent device that can assess the health of your car’s battery. In doing so it can supply the appropriate amount of power to start up your car without the risk of damaging your vehicle’s battery and other electric components.

This is said to be a safer alternative to using jump leads or a battery booster pack. Those aforementioned methods, after all, may cause one’s alternator to suddenly open its floodgates once a car is started in order to refill the bypassed empty car battery.

In the long run, several bad things may happen to your vehicle. A higher current coming from the alternator is hot and this may bend the battery plates. This in turn will cause its lead dioxide material to come off and will collect in the bottom of the battery. This, in turn, will cause early wear and reduced efficiency.

CTEK likewise warns that a sudden surge in power may also overwhelm a car’s sensitive electronic devices. In modern cars, these include the many components that handle the car’s safety systems, the infotainment system, a car’s array of sensors, cameras, etc.

Another look at the CS Free kit.

CTEK is a Swedish company that specializes in battery management

So how does the CS Free work? Well, it charges up the empty battery with just the right amount to allow the car to start. According to the company, this takes 15 minutes. This is much longer than jump-starting which takes effect immediately. Still, a short wait might be worth it since replacing a damaged battery or fixing your car’s many electronic devices can be a complicated and expensive affair.
