Chery showed off Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV’s capabilities at 2022 PEVS

Take the plunge into hybrids with this seven-seater crossover SUV. 

To show what it offers when it comes to sustainably-powered car options for the local market, Chery Auto Philippines participated in the 10th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) that was held at the SMX Convention Center from October 20 to 21, 2022.

Highlighted during the event was the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV which if one remembers, was first introduced back at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show. 

Starting off with its powertrain, Chery says that this PHEV model has a fully electric range of 95 kilometers on a fully charged battery. When in hybrid mode, the model can stretch its range up to 3,400 kilometers if kept at an average speed of 40 to 60 km/h. 

The brand also says that it is economical to run this model. Completely charging the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV will cost just Php 5,202 per month. That’s based on if a user seeks to charge it up fully every day.  

The battery of this hybrid model itself is also notable for its estimated 10-year lifespan. Chery added that charging up to 100 percent full from being fully drained just takes 3 to 5 hours if done via a standard 220-volt power outlet.

This PHEV model gets a stylish exterior as well

Apart from touting cost-effectiveness, the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV’s 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 hybrid mill can also be described as peppy. It can produce up to 254 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque, thus enabling it a claimed zero to 100 km/h in just five seconds.

Step inside this Chery model and you’ll also get plenty of tech features and amenities. Chief among these is a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android QDLink, Bluetooth, as well as an eight-piece Sony speaker system.  

It also gets power adjustable front seating, automatic air-conditioning, ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charging, as well as black leather seats.  

Also present in this hybrid crossover is an extensive safety kit. These include anti-lock braking, electronic stability control, hill-descent control, emergency brake assist, cruise control, tire pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, among others.

A peek inside the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV

Topping all of the aforementioned features and specs is an array of warranties for the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV. Known collectively as the Chery Preserv, it offers a seven-year engine warranty, a 3-year free preventive maintenance package, and a 3-year free roadside assistance package.  

With what the 2023 Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV is offering, are you willing to take the plunge into hybrid-powered cars? For those interested, the Tiggo 8 Pro starts at Php 1,670,000 for the non-hybrid variant, while the hybrid one has a Php 2,450,000 price tag.

Chery Tiggo 8 Pro

The Tiggo 8 Pro 2023 is a seven-seater midsize crossover. In the local market, this model has two different variants, the Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6 AT, and the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV. The Pro 1.6T AT is priced at Php 1,698,000, while the PHEV variant can be had for Php 2,500,000.

Under the hood, the Tiggo 8 Pro gets two engine options. For the top-spec PHEV trim, it uses a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbo gasoline engine that’s paired with an electric motor, as well as a battery. In total, this hybrid powertrain can produce up to 155 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. This variant then uses a hybrid gearbox.

The non-hybrid version meanwhile, gets a 1.6-liter inline-4 turbo gasoline engine that’s good for 195 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. This version then gets a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Size wise, it is 4,722mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,745mm tall. It also has a wheelbase length of 2710mm.

Locally, the Tiggo 8 Pro competes against the Maxus D90, Honda CR-V, Kaicene CX70, Geely Okavango, GAC GS8, among others.
