As per previous reports, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) has been working on several major road projects. And according to the latest updates from MPTC, the Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) has now achieved 20 percent progress on the Cavite Toll Expressway-C5 Link expressway project.
Some crucial structures of the CAVITEX C5-Link Segment 2 are already up
Of note, the CAVITEX C5 Link is a thoroughfare that will connect the C5 road in Taguig to the CAVITEX R1. In total, the said road is 7.7 kilometers long, and comprises six lanes. It also has a total budget of Php 15-billion, and it is made up of two major parts: Segment 2 and Segment 3.
The CIC says that the construction of the C5 Link segment 3A-2 connecting E. Rodriguez to Merville, and Segment 2 that links CAVITEX R1 Interchange to the Sucat Interchange have already started. Meanwhile, the C5 Link segment 3A-1 connecting Merville to the C5 Road has been operational since 2019. Lastly, CIC said the Segment 3B linking E. Rodriguez to Sucat will then start sometime in 2022.
In a previous report, the Department of Public Works and Highways said that the CAVITEX-C5 Link will be completed in 2022. As per the new target date for Segment 3B though, it appears that the 2022 completion date for the said expressway section isn’t likely to happen.
Once completed, the CAVITEX C5 Link can reduce the travel time to Cavite and Makati/Taguig and vice versa to just 45 minutes. It can also accommodate up to 50,000 motorists every day. According to Google Maps, the current travel time using existing routes can take up to an hour or more.

Currently, the ongoing construction works for the said project involve the construction of slab decks, a drainage system, bridge substructures, concrete pouring, and ground improvements.
Apart from reducing travel times, the CIC will also provide the CAVITEX’s toll plazas with Automatic License Plate Recognition (APLR) cameras. This will complement the existing RFID collection systems to provide motorists with smoother and faster transactions.
