Aston Martin Vantage suits up to be official Formula 1 Safety Car

The new Aston Martin Vantage is the official FIA Safety Car of Formula 1 (F1). It will suit up to fulfill its duties as the Safety Car starting this race weekend–the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. 

Aston Martin Vantage Formula 1 Safety Car

Aston Martin shared that a specially equipped version of the high-performance Vantage will be F1’s official Safety Car. It will lead all 20 F1 cars on the formation lap, and will be ready to roar into action should it be required to intervene and control the pace of the race. 

Of note, the Safety Car is deployed in Formula 1 races whenever race stewards identify that there’s an immediate hazard on the track. It slows down the race pace until the hazard is resolved which may involve retrieving a stalled F1 car or clearing debris on the track. The Safety Car’s role is to ensure the safety of the marshals, drivers, and others around the track. 

Aston Martin said that the new Vantage is an “authentic, unadulterated celebration of pure performance, engineered to deliver maximum thrills with maximum confidence.” It is equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 656 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. The British marque added that the Vantage’s engine did not require any upgrades to be the official F1 Safety Car.

Aston Martin Global Chief Brand and Commercial Officer Marco Mattiacci said that the Vantage being the official F1 Safety Car is a source of great pride for the car brand. 

“Vantage is the very essence of the Aston Martin brand, so to see the fastest, most driver-focused Vantage yet play such an important role in the prestigious FIA Formula One World Championship is a source of great pride for us,” Mattiacci shared.   

It will debut at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Mattiacci also said that the F1 will help Aston Martin boost its global brand awareness. 

“For brand awareness, there is no global, high-octane sporting series that can match F1®. Building on the natural synergies between the sport and Aston Martin, racing fans will not only see the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team AMR24’s on track but also two of our most exciting performance models, Vantage and the award-winning DBX707,” Mattiacci commented. 

Aston Martin DBX707 Formula 1 Medical Car

The Aston Martin DBX707, on the other hand, is F1’s official medical car, a duty that it has been serving since last year. This vehicle is powered by a 697-hp twin-turbocharged V8 that’s paired with a new 9-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). As such, the DBX707 is said to be a perfect fit for the role, making sure to be on time when medical assistance is needed.
