Last month, Subaru officially revealed its first-ever battery electric vehicle (BEV) called the Solterra. It is developed from the partnership between Subaru and Toyota to bring out an entry to the growing electric vehicle (EV) market.

To give a more in-depth look at the Solterra, Subaru Europe General Manager for Sales and Marketing David Dello Stritto, presented the all-new BEV crossover SUV through a walkaround video. He discussed some of the features and inspiration behind the design elements of the vehicle.
Needless to say, the Subaru Solterra is built with sharp and angular body lines that give the vehicle its character. Stritto explained that these are not just for embellishing the appearance, but also to improve its aerodynamics. With this, performance is enhanced, while the wind noise is reduced.
Neat cabin configuration
The brand’s signature hexagon grille in an enclosed configuration is used at the front fascia. It is surrounded by the Subaru’s first multiple projected LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights. Turning to the sides, the crossover SUV comes with large 20-inch wheels with a multi-spoke finish.
Just like the headlamps, the rear end also sports C-shaped taillights, displaying a design continuity. A duck tail-like spoiler is positioned above the taillights, as well as a wing on the roof. Stritto noted that these design elements contribute to improving the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
Safe, fun, and tough
Inside, Subaru wants to create an airy ambiance for the passengers so they can relax on the go. That said, the cabin layouts come clean and uncluttered. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen is seamlessly connected on the center console which utilizes a Subaru-exclusive Harmon Kardon sound system.
Within the walkaround video, Stritto clarified that the Solterra is still a true Subaru despite not using a boxer engine. Like all Subaru models, the all-new electric crossover SUV is a Safe, Fun, and Tough vehicle. This is backed up by the Solterra’s use of the Subaru EyeSight Technology, permanent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, X-Mode, one pedal drive technology called S-Pedal, and two independent electric motors on each axle.
