Subaru PH will start 2022 with a bang.

Back in September 2021, we talked about the debut of the all-new Subaru WRX. It uses the new Subaru Global Platform, and as with new next-generation models, it comes with several improvements to the powertrain as well as significant changes to its exterior and interior design. As mentioned in a previous report, Subaru Philippines will be bringing in this model by the first half of 2022.

Later on in October, we then reported that the 2022 Subaru WRX wagon variant is coming to Australia this year. Now, Subaru PH has confirmed that the all-new WRX wagon, and the WRX sedan will be launched in the market next year.

Of note, the 2022 Subaru WRX wagon for the Philippines has been confirmed to be based on the all-new second-generation Subaru Levorg which is now available in Japan where it uses a 1.8-liter turbo boxer engine.

However, Subaru PH said that the local-spec WRX wagon will be getting the 2.4-liter FA24F turbo H4 engine that’s also available on the all-new WRX sedan.

When it comes to power, the 2.4-liter turbo gasoline engine can produce up to 256 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. It is highly likely that this engine will then be paired to a continuously variable transmission. And of course, this upcoming wagon model will come standard with the Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system.

As a side note, there were rumors floating around months ago that the 2022 WRX wagon/Levorg might be getting a six-speed manual gearbox just like the 2022 WRX VB model. That however might not be the case because even the 2022 Levorg STI that was recently announced lacks a manual tranny.

Regarding safety, it was also revealed that both the 2022 WRX wagon, and WRX sedan will have the EyeSight 4.0 driver-assist suite. This is the same version of the EyeSight found on the new Subaru Outback and it features technologies like Autonomous emergency braking and steering, adaptive cruise control, lead vehicle start alert, lane centering and lane departure prevention, and many others.

With regards to when, it was also mentioned in the virtual meeting with Subaru PH that the all-new WRX Wagon and the WRX sedan will officially arrive on Philippine shores in June 2022. A few months before that, Subaru PH is also bringing in the next-generation 2022 BRZ in April.
