Know more about Volkswagen Lavida 2024

Volkswagen Lavida

The Volkswagen Lavida 2024 made headlines in China as the country’s second best-selling model before being launched in the Philippine automotive market. It is a compact sedan that looks similar to the Jetta with a fresher grille and bumper design. It measures 4,605mm long, 1,765mm wide, and 1,460mm high on a 2,610mm wheelbase. The compact sedan rides on a 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine with BlueMotion Technology, similar to other compact sedans marketed by Volkswagen. It also carries the brand’s automatic start/stop engine technology which makes the Lavida more fuel-efficient.

The Volkswagen Lavida price in the Philippines amounts to Php 1,251,000 for the lone 1.4 230 TSI DSG variant, with the lowest monthly amortization at Php 14,114 for 60 months on a 50 percent downpayment. Among its rivals in the compact sedan segment are the Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Civic, MG 6, Kia Forte, and the Geely Emgrand.

Volkswagen Lavida Launch

The Volkswagen Lavida was specifically designed and engineered to cater to the Asian market. It was launched exclusively to select countries in the region and was introduced to the Philippines in September 2019 during Volkswagen’s 6th anniversary in the country. The model only has one variant available, which is the SE.

Right in the middle of the compact Volkswagen Santana and the full-sized sedan Lamando is the Volkswagen Lavida. It shares several similarities with the Jetta, which it replaced in the market upon its launch. However, there are slight design changes that were refreshed to cater to Lavida’s particular market segment.

Volkswagen Lavida Exterior

Lavida’s exterior is consistent with Volkswagen’s current design language of clean and simple details. Upfront, it sports a horizontal grille with the classic VW emblem and its large-sized LED headlights. Placed parallel to it are the central air vent and refreshed fog lamp housing.

A useful addition to the vehicle’s exterior are the side mirror turn indicators which are adequately sized and provide a nice touch of modernity to the entire car’s classic design.

Volkswagen Lavida Interior

Keeping the Volkswagen's signature timeless design and class, the Lavida’s cabin is tastefully neat and simple. All seats are upholstered in black leather to match the dashboard. Meanwhile, the flat-bottom steering wheel has a sporty look that stands out from the entire vehicle.

A pleasant surprise is how the rear seats can be folded flat which allows you to access the trunk. It gives more than twice the amount of space to load luggage. The compact sedan also features a sunroof that can be fully opened through a dial on the ceiling.

Technology & Safety

The Lavida Philippines features cruise control technology that works electronically to regulate the car’s speed and add comfort in long drives. It also boasts of an Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP) which can detect critical driving conditions and take actions to avoid major accidents. The Lavida is also equipped with a tire pressure monitor that constantly checks the safety of the wheels, which in the long run, will help make the tires last longer. As for the filtration system, it offers a climatronic air conditioning system that ensures healthy ventilation in the vehicle’s cabin. It has an added anti-allergenic filter to keep the air quality at a consistently high level.

Platform & Chassis

The Volkswagen Lavida’s 1.4L engine is paired with a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission, which directs its power to the front axles. DSG is a dual-clutch transmission technology developed by Volkswagen, exclusively for the brand’s product line. It features a dual-clutch, multiple-shaft manual gearbox, minus the clutch pedals.

The front has a McPherson Independent suspension while a composite torsion beam, semi-independent suspension is latched to the rear. The brakes are front ventilated disc and rear disc.

Engine & Drivetrain

Under the hood, the Volkswagen Lavida has a 1.4L 4-cylinder, in-line, fuel-injected gasoline engine with BlueMotion Technology. It powers out 128 hp and 225 Nm of torque. Although this model is not as powerful as its predecessor, acceleration does not fall short. The engine pulls well for either city cruising or spirited drives.

The Lavida also features a start/stop engine system which aids in fuel efficiency. When the vehicle is at a full stop while stepping on the brake, the engine automatically turns off. Once the foot is taken off the brake pedal, the engine automatically goes back on and is ready to drive. The feature can be turned off, should it not be needed.

The Volkswagen Lavida 2024 is available in five exterior colors: Deep Black, Polar White, Reflex Silver, Limestone Grey, and Opal Silver Metallic.

The Volkswagen Lavida 2024 is powered by a turbocharged gasoline engine just like the Honda Civic and MG 6, but falls short in terms of output with just 128 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque. Similar to the MG 6 and Kia Forte, it also uses a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The generous cargo space in the trunk can be expanded through the 60:40 split-fold rear bench, as with others in its class. While the Lavida comes equipped with a fair number of safety features such as airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, hill hold control, and onboard tire pressure monitor, it has no equivalent driver-assist system compared to Toyota Safety Sense on the Corolla Altis and Honda Sensing on the Civic.
