This will take effect starting December 25.

Due to the Christmas rush, heavy traffic is expected on almost every road. To loosen up some of the buildups, the city of Valenzuela will soon allow motorcycle riders to use the bike lane along McArthur Highway.

Message from Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian

Under Ordinance No. 1064, Series of 2022, single motorcycle riders will be given access to use the bike lane along McArthur Highway starting December 25. It will be made available every Monday to Friday only.

Motorcyclists are obliged to follow the speed limit of 20 km/h. This is for the safety not only of motorcyclists but also of other road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, tricycles and pedicabs are still not allowed to traverse the McArthur Highway.

The ordinance aims to alleviate traffic this holiday season

This was announced by Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian in response to increased vehicle volume this Christmas season. According to the city mayor, the ordinance is their Christmas gift to motorists so they can reach their destinations this holiday season. Here is a message from Mayor Gatchalian:

“So ito po ang tanging solusyon na naisip po ng lungsod ng Valenzuela para po hindi na ho mahirapan ang ating mga kababayan ngayong kapaskuhan. Sa ngalan po ng lungsod ng Valenzuela, ang inyong lingkod po ay bumabati ng isang maligayang pasko at manigong bagong taon sa inyong lahat. Maraming salamat po.”

(This is the only solution the city of Valenzuela came up with so our fellow countrymen won’t be troubled this holiday season. From the city of Valenzuela, we are greeting everyone with Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Thank you.)

Outside of Valenzuela City, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has been hands-on in alleviating heavy traffic due to the Christmas rush. The MMDA conducted road clearing operations near usual Christmas shopping centers. Also, the agency has adjusted mall hours from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. to help minimize traffic during rush hours.
