Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), a sub-company of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), is officially resuming its production activities of the diesel engines that were previously involved in testing irregularities which were made public last January 2024.
TICO will resume its engine production on March 4
The company will restart the production and shipping of the said engines on March 4. These will come from its Inabe Production line #1 and Gifu Auto Body Production line #1.
To refresh your memories, it was reported by TICO to TMC that irregularities were found particularly in the horsepower output testing of these engines. These diesel engines include the 1GD, the 2GD, and the F33A. As a result, TMC deemed it necessary to temporarily cease the production and shipping of these engines.
The 1GD inline-4 turbodiesel mill is currently in use for the Hilux, Fortuner, and HiAce in a variety of markets across the globe.
The 2D inline-4 turbodiesel engine meanwhile, is used by the Hilux in Japan, and the Toyota Innova in Asia. The F33A meanwhile, powers the Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX500d in a variety of countries.
Moving forward, TMC will continue to support TICO’s activities in such a way that the latter may “return to its roots and revitalize its engine business.” The Toyota group will also perform continuous reviews of the said situation to ensure the quality of their products.
In the new statement announcing the resumption of production activities of TICO for the affected diesel engine, TMC has once again deeply apologized to its customers and its stakeholders.
The Philippine-spec models fitted with the engines involved in the testing fiasco are unaffected
To reiterate, Toyota Philippines has already disclosed that none of the engines for the Philippine spec versions of the models mentioned above were affected by the testing irregularities.
Moreover, the said irregularities were tied to the certification process in line with particular national requirements of certain markets. With that said, the fiasco does not negatively impact the locally available Hilux, Innova, Fortuner, LX500d, and Land Cruiser 300’s performance. Safety and emissions standards for these locally available models were not compromised as well.
