This could be Toyota’s first Philippine offering for 2022.

The new year holds surprises, at least as far as Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is concerned. One of these is the revelation that the Raize subcompact crossover is set to be launched in our market.

Toyota Raize

Toyota's first subcompact crossover in the Philippines could be coming sooner than you think

We previously reported that the newest Toyota will be making its local debut in February. However, TMP has reportedly already released the upcoming variants and their respective pricing, hinting at a launch date that’s at least a month early.

The Philippine-spec Raize carries dimensions of 4,030mm in length, 1,710mm in width, and 1,605mm in height on a 2,525mm wheelbase. It will have a ground clearance of 200mm, higher than the Corolla Cross which it slots under. A choice of monotone and two-tone body colors is available depending on the trim level, with halogen or split-type LED headlamps.

Power-folding mirrors will be standard for the range-topper, and all variants get a sharkfin antenna as well as a rear spoiler. A choice of 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels will be offered.

There's room in the cabin for up to five occupants

Inside, the Raize offers seating for five occupants on fabric and leather seats, with manual adjustment on the front thrones and a 60/40 split-fold rear bench to access the rear cargo area. An Optitron meter cluster or a fully digital display lies just beyond the multi-function steering wheel, while a touchscreen head unit comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Under the hood, the Raize is powered by two engines. One is a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 87 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque, the other is a 1.0-liter turbocharged unit rated at 97 horsepower and 140 Nm of twist. Power is sent to the front wheels using either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission.
