Toyota bZ3 electric sedan images leaked in China

This is ahead of the model’s scheduled premiere in November.

Toyota has already cemented its commitment to electrification with the launch of the bZ4X crossover this year. Now, it seems the follow-up model is just around the corner.

Toyota bZ3

The bZ3 sedan is the second all-electric offering from Toyota after the bZ4X crossover

Leaked images from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showed what is reported to be the bZ3 electric sedan. This could be Toyota’s sophomore battery electric vehicle, slated for an official reveal at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November.

Believed to be the production version of the bZ SDN concept, the bZ3 will reportedly be assembled by FAW Toyota for the Chinese market. It will also utilize powertrain technology from BYD, with an electric motor powered by BYD’s FinDreams lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

Two peak power outputs will be offered, from 183 horsepower to 244 horsepower, both in rear-wheel-drive. Top speed is reportedly capped at 160 kilometers per hour. No information on battery output, vehicle range, or charging capability have been disclosed in the meantime.

It's considered the production version of the bZ SDN concept previewed in late 2021

The bZ3 stands 4,725mm long, 1,835mm wide, and 1,475mm high on a 2,880mm wheelbase. These figures are similar to those on the Tesla Model 3, one of the segment stalwarts that the bZ3 is expected to challenge. Another anticipated rival is BYD’s own Seal electric sedan, which recently made its debut in China with more than 60,000 preorders.

Influences from the bZ4X are evident on the exterior of the bZ3, with a visor-like fascia and character lines formed by geometric shapes. The generous greenhouse comprises a large windshield and side windows. A full-width rear light bar spans the width of the vehicle, while 18-inch alloy wheels can be found on all four corners.

There are hardly interior images shown, but a yoke steering wheel can be seen poking out from the digital instrument cluster. A vertical infotainment screen is also evident.

As with the bZ4X, Subaru Solterra, and Lexus RZ 450e, the bZ3 is expected to ride on the e-TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. Toyota has not announced concrete plans for the bZ3’s launch in other markets for now.
