San Miguel targets to complete the southbound section by Q3.

After opening the northbound segment of the Skyway Extension project, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is now eyeing to complete the southbound section by the third quarter (Q3) of this year.

SMC said that the construction of the southbound section will “move at a faster pace” to meet its target completion by Q3. SMC president Ramon S. Ang is determined to complete the southbound section on time to improve traffic flow.

Ang expects that the southbound section of the Skyway Extension project will yield similar results as to how the northbound segment improved traffic flow on South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the Alabang viaduct.

“It’s only been a number of days since we opened the northbound section, free to the public until further notice, and already we have seen a huge improvement in traffic flow, particularly on SLEX (South Luzon Expressway) and the Alabang viaduct. That makes us even more determined to complete construction of the southbound section,” said Ang.

Ang added that the Hillsborough off-ramp of the elevated southbound Skyway will be closed to traffic permanently starting April 19 at 6 a.m. This is to make way for the next phase of construction of the Skyway Extension’s southbound section.

As such, vehicles coming from the elevated Skyway will now exit at the steel ramp in Alabang. SMC is advising motorists to expect heavy traffic in the said area.

SMC is advising motorists to take the following alternative routes:

> Class 1 vehicles from Pasay, Makati, Manila, and Quezon City bound for SLEX and farther South - from Skyway Elevated, keep left to Steel Ramp towards destination.

> Class 1 vehicles from Pasay, Makati, Manila, and Quezon City bound for Alabang - from Skyway – Elevated, keep right to Alabang-Zapote off-ramp.

The Skyway Extension southbound section has two lanes and runs from the Skyway Main Toll Plaza to Soldier’s Hills in Muntinlupa, with a total distance of four kilometers.

On the other hand, the Skyway Extension northbound section connects Susana Heights in Alabang to Sucat in Paranaque.
