SMC signed a joint venture agreement (JVA) to build the CBEX with the Provincial Government of Cavite. The JVA as well as the tollway concession agreement for the implementation of the Php 27-billion CBEX project was given to SMC’s San Miguel Holdings Inc.
The CBEX is a 27.06-kilometer toll road that will traverse through the municipalities of Silang, Amadeo, Tagaytay, Indang, Mendez and Alfonso in Cavite, and end in Nasugbu, Batangas.
The Provincial Government of Cavite, led by current Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla, stated that the CBEX intends to improve connectivity between the National Capital Region (NCR) and CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon). The said upcoming expressway is also meant to mitigate road congestion in CALABARZON.
SMC will finance the Php 27-billion CBEX project at no cost to the Provincial Government of Cavite for a concession period of 35 years.
Joint venture agreement between San Miguel and Provincial Government of Cavite for the CBEX project
The CBEX is expected to be completed by 2026, according to a report published in Inquirer.net. The report added that Gov. Remulla said the right-of-way clearing activities would begin by June 2023. Remulla also shared that around 40,000 motorists daily are expected to use the CBEX during the toll road’s first three years of operations.
Meanwhile, CBEX is different from the Cavite-Tagaytay-Batangas Expressway (CTBEX), which was proposed by Metro Pacific Investment Corp. The proposed CTBEX has yet to get approval from the national government. Metro Pacific submitted its proposal to the Department of Public Works and Highways last 2017.
The proposed CBTEX
The proposed CBTEX is a 50.4-kilometer toll road that will run through Silang, Tagaytay, Amadeo, Mendez, Alfonso, Magallanes, and end in Nasugbu, Batangas. The goal of the said expressway is to provide an alternative route for motorists plying Aguinaldo Highway, and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. It is also meant to connect Metro Manila, Cavite, and Batangas.
