Right off the bat, the 2023 Subaru Outback gets a more rugged design that makes it look more off-road ready. This could be a familiar sight for those who follow the nameplate as the recently-released Wilderness trim comes with the same design concept.

The front fascia is designed with an aggressive front bumper cover, a larger grille, and redesigned LED headlights and taillights. Meanwhile, the wheel arch cladding has been updated to not only exude a stronger sense of off-road appearance, but also improves functionality. All of these are added to all the US-spec Outback trims except the Wilderness.

The cabin layout has been carried over from the pre-facelift model

Inside, Subaru didn’t make a lot of changes for the facelift model of the sixth-gen. But the Japanese wagon did receive the latest version of the STARLINK 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is also the first Subaru model to offer ‘what3words’ (W3W), an innovative location technology that provides precise locations using only three words.

In terms of safety, the 2023 Outback comes standard with the latest version of EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. For the top-of-the-line Touring trim, it is equipped with an additional Wide-Angle Mono camera that works together with the dual-camera EyeSight system. It expands the field of view to help recognize pedestrians, vehicles, and roads better.

It comes with the latest version of the brand's ADAS

No changes were made under the hood. This means that the vehicle is still powered by either a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated boxer mill with 182 horsepower and 239 Nm of torque or a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine that makes 260 horsepower and 376 Nm of torque. The engines can only be paired to a Lineartronic CVT that features an 8-speed manual mode with paddle shifters.

Subaru Outback Launch

The Subaru Outback was introduced in 1994. The new Outback was then brought into the Philippine market by Motor Image Pilipinas in August 2021. This was then followed by another update that was rolled out at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

At the 2024 MIAS, Subaru launched the Outback 2.4 EyeSight XT Touring.

Subaru Outback Exterior

The new Subaru Outback possesses a chiseled angular build supported by an abundance of black plastic cladding. To further establish its sporty aura, a set of roof rails is fixed at the top while wide fenders are affixed below. Its rear end also features a hands-free tailgate, and it rides on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels.

Software updates were also provided to the vehicle's touchscreen and multi-info display.

The sixth-generation Subaru Outback is underpinned by the new Subaru Global Platform. The said platform employs stronger steel, which results in a stiffer, more responsive drive.

Suspension for the new Outback is then handled by MacPherson struts for the front and double-wishbones for the rear. For braking, the Subaru crossover uses discs for all of its wheels. Its parking brake is an electronic type with an auto-hold function.
