The policy has already caused traffic congestion in Bulacan.

COVID-19 cases are currently on the rise again, beginning in the closing days of 2021. Before that, the country saw as few as 141 cases over a seven-day average. This is in contrast with January 9, 2022, when the Department of Health recorded a whopping 28,707 new infections in a single day.

We can also expect the PNP to set up checkpoints within Metro Manila itself

In relation to this, the government has announced that it will take steps to combat the said surge. One of the agencies involved in this effort is the Philippine National Police (PNP), which is now requiring travelers going into Metro Manila and Bulacan to present valid vaccination cards. These might be inspected at border control points along routes leading to the two areas.

As PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said, “Those without vaccination cards will be barred from entering and will be asked to go back.” However, those who will fail to present a vaxx card will not be arrested.

Traffic congestion was already observed on the first day of vaxx card checks at Bulacan. The PNP says that freedom of movement of the citizenry should not be hampered, but at the same time, it is urging everyone to just remain at home especially if they have “nothing important to do outside.”

Of note, requiring a vaxx card for entry into Metro Manila is consistent with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) Resolution No. 22-01, which urges unvaccinated folks to stay at home except for essential travels such as gathering needed supplies or going to medical appointments.

If you're already vaccinated, just don't forget to bring your vaccination card

Both Metro Manila and Bulacan have been placed under Alert Level 3 until January 15, 2022. While other regions within the periphery of Metro Manila like Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bataan, Batangas, and Pampanga are already under the same alert level, the PNP is yet to announce tight border controls requiring a vaxx card for the said regions.
