Arguably the coolest Volkswagen Filipinos will see.

Volkswagen Philippines released several teasers on its social media about an upcoming vehicle, which we believe to be the 2021 Volkswagen T-Cross. The latest teaser post suggests that the Volkswagen T-Cross will bring loud colors and a sunroof.

However, Volkswagen Philippines hasn’t rolled out the official features the PH-spec Volkswagen T-Cross will offer to Filipino car buyers. But reports say that the upcoming T-Cross will be sourced from China so we could possibly see similar features from both markets.

Possible Volkswagen T-Cross teaser

Volkswagen Philippines' latest post

The Volkswagen T-Cross comes with a measurement that spans 4,218 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, and 1,599 mm in height, almost the same numbers as the Ford EcoSport for comparison. This could mean that the T-Cross will be competing in the local subcompact crossover segment against the Hyundai Kona, MG ZS, among others.

The large panoramic sunroof, as seen in Volkswagen Philippines’ recent teaser post, could be available for higher-end variants only just like in the Chinese market. Volkswagen in China offers the T-Cross with various body color options such as polar white, star gray, dream blue, roman red, vibrant gold with black roof, and more.

Inside, higher-end variants get leather seats while diamond fabric integrated seats are the way to go for lower-end variants. The Volkswagen T-Cross can be equipped with either an 8-inch or a 9.2-inch infotainment screen, depending on the chosen variant.

As for safety, the Volkswagen T-Cross is expected to come with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic differential lock (EDL), ramp start assist system, traction control, cruise control system, smart tire pressure monitoring system, front airbags, ISOFIX tethers, and four reverse radars as standard.

There are two possible engine options that Volkswagen Philippines might offer in the local market. The first option is a 1.5-liter EA211 gasoline engine capable of producing 111 hp and 145 Nm of torque. The second option is a 1.4-liter EA211 TSI turbocharged gasoline engine good for 148 hp and 250 Nm of torque.

No official pricing has been released for the upcoming Volkswagen T-Cross just yet. However, one can expect that the T-Cross will start at around Php 1.1 million. Since reports say that it will be sourced from China, the DTI safeguard tariff should add an additional Php 70,000 since the T-Cross is an imported passenger vehicle.
