The Omoda 5 crossover, which is set to be released in the Philippine market, has garnered praise from several dignitaries from all across Southeast Asia.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to India Hon. Josel Francisco Ignacio
The praise of these government officials came during the Omoda 5 Electric Vehicle (EV) roll-off ceremony when it was handed over to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry Malaysia (MITI).
Specifically enamored by the vehicle’s onboard tech were Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and China Anhui Province Deputy Governor Shan Xiangquian.
Several Filipino officials, meanwhile, got to drive the Omoda 5. This includes Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to India Hon. Josel Francisco Ignacio who had the chance to experience first-hand Omoda model via a test drive. According to Omoda, Ignacio liked the Omoda 5’s design aesthetics, as well as its ability to provide a comfortable driving experience.
Back in November 2023, the Undersecretary of the Industry Development Group (IDG) Dr. Ceferino S. Rodolfo had the opportunity to talk with Chery International General Manager for Eastern Europe and Asia Pacific Jeff Liu. During this discussion, the two luminaries covered the future developments of Omoda in the Philippine market, as well as its new energy strategy.
In connection with the latter, Omoda sees Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, as its next big step in terms of growth. Currently, it has already gained the status of a fast-growing global brand with a cumulative export sales volume of 147,000 units.
The Omoda 5 EV
The Philippines however, as Omoda indicated, might see a jump in demand for EVs thanks to the 2022 Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act. This, of course, is a golden opportunity for the Omoda 5 EV in particular since the law grants tax exemptions for EVs and hybrids.
So with all that said, Omoda is keen to gain a foothold in the Philippines this 2024. No launch dates for its Omoda 5 and Omoda 5 EV were indicated just yet, but the brand says it’ll happen this year.
