Toyota has just decided to replace its Auris nameplate for the European market. Now the European motorists will get accustomed to the name Corolla as used to call in other markets.

The carmaker explained it is its new Global Architecture platform (TNGA) to be used on the new model that encouraged the Toyota to remove the former name Auris (meaning gold in Latin). Also, with the introduction of TNGA, the 3 current platforms on the existing models will be removed.

“The TNGA engineering and design philosophy brings a whole new dimension to our next generation C-segment models,” Said CEO and President of Toyota Motor Europe Johan van Zyl.

Toyota Corolla has been the top-selling nameplate in the world with over 45m units sold since its first introduction to the public in 1966. That all markets share the same Corolla nameplate will even perk up its dominance and outpace its rival models from other auto brands by leaps and bounds.
