After the introduction of the ultra-compact battery electric vehicle (BEV) called C+Pod earlier this year, Toyota Motor Corporation is expanding its small BEV lineup with the release of the C+Walk. The C+Walk is a 3-wheeled standing-type BEV that aims to provide convenient mobility in the new normal.
3-wheeled Toyota C+Walk
Thanks to its use of a lithium-ion battery, the C+Walk is an environmentally friendly way to get around town with a maximum distance of 14 km on a single battery charge. It uses a brushless DC motor to drive the front wheel which enables a smoother acceleration, deceleration, and turning. Two wheels are installed at the rear to provide better stability.
When Toyota was developing the C+Walk, it designed the electric scooter to be as ergonomic as possible. The flat base stands at 150mm high only to help users get in and out of the vehicle easily. Also, the angle of the steering wheel, the shape of the grips, and the location of the levers and buttons are carefully placed for a smoother and more pleasing ride.
An alternative to walking
Depending on the user’s preference, the electric scooter can run at a speed of either two, three, four, five, six, or 10 km/h. The front comes with a 10-inch tire, while the rear gets two 6-inch tires. All tires are fitted with a puncture-proof feature to eliminate worries about puncturing.
As for safety, standard features include a speed limiter depending on the steering angles and a steep slope detection function that automatically decelerates the BEV on steep downhills. Meanwhile, the Safety Support trim gets an obstacle detection function that slows down the vehicle when it detects a possible collision with a person or obstacle.
It comes with different configurations to suit various mobility needs
Toyota is also currently developing seated-type and wheelchair-linked-type models in the C+walk series. Toyota Motor Corporation is offering the C+Walk electric scooter in Japan at a starting price of 341,000 Yen (or around Php 155,550) for the standard model. For the safer Safety Support trim, it gets a sticker price of 354,200 Yen (or around Php 161,558).
