With that said, motorists passing through the immediate area of the aforementioned flyover should expect to see heavier traffic when the repair work commences.
As per a Radyo5 interview, DPWH - National Captial Region (NCR) Director Loreta Malaluan shared that as of the moment, they are working on securing the necessary permits from the concerned barangay within the locale of Magallanes Flyover.
The repairs themselves will require the installation of scaffolding to provide workers access to the higher parts of the flyover’s foundations. According to Malaluan, workers will lay out carbon fiber sheets and plates underneath, as such, the early phases of the repair won’t require immediate road closures on the flyover.
Malauan added that the lower section of the flyover mostly sees pedestrian traffic. It does however, host a U-turn slot, so DPWH is currently working together with the local government and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to prepare a traffic scheme for affected motorists.
For the lanes on the flyover itself, Malauan mentioned that they won’t start the repairs for those not until the repairs for the EDSA-Kamuning flyover in Quezon City are completed. She further added that light vehicles will still be allowed to pass Magallanes Flyover as its repairs are ongoing.
The DPWH NCR head further shared that they will replace the expansion joints located at the flyover’s southbound lane. This will mean that the flyover’s two center lanes will be closed but the outer lanes will still be usable.

Of note, the repair works for the Magallanes Flyover are expected to be completed in nine months.
Apart from talking about the Magallanes Flyover, Malaluan also shared updates regarding other major repair jobs within NCR.
With regards to the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover, whose southbound portion was closed off last month, repair works are now undergoing at double pace. For those unaware, this flyover is being retrofitted to make it more resistant to strong earthquakes.
The Guadalupe Bridge in Makati City meanwhile, will also be rehabilitated before the end of 2024 with funding aid thanks to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
