Lotus to unveil new all-electric hypercar sedan called Emeya

This could rival the likes of the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.

Lotus will add a new model to its electric vehicle-favoring (EV) lineup with the Emeya.

The Lotus Emeya is coming

The Lotus Emeya is the brand’s new “Hyper GT”, which is expected to come with four doors and an all-electric powertrain. With that being said, the new Lotus should rival the likes of the Porsche Taycan and its stablemate, the Audi e-tron GT.

Lotus remains mum about what we can expect from the new EV. But the British automaker did post a 26-second teaser, revealing some design cues including the lighting system.

The front fascia comes with split headlights reminiscent of the one on the all-electric Lotus Eletre EV. Meanwhile, the rear end is equipped with a taillight that runs across the width of the vehicle. Another feature we noticed is the active rear wing, suggesting the model will be performance-oriented.

If the Lotus Emeya will take aim at the Porsche Taycan, we could expect similar technical specifications. For reference, the top-spec Taycan Turbo S is installed with two electric motors capable of generating up to 750 horsepower and 1,049 Nm of torque, enough to run from zero to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds only.

The Lotus Emeya Hyper GT is scheduled to be unveiled on September 7, 2023. Hopefully, the alleged EV sedan could help the company bounce back following delays of the Emira, the brand’s final combustion road-going car, and Evija – resulting in financial losses and job cuts in 2022.

One can expect Lotus will commence sales of the Emeya in late 2024 or early 2025, with target markets yet to be disclosed.

Another EV hypercar is bound to join the lineup

For now, Filipino car buyers can look forward to the arrival of the Lotus Emira with the 2.0-liter Mercedes-AMG engine with 360 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. The two-door sports is slated to be launched locally in the third quarter of this year.
