To make way for a bang-tastic Chinese New Year’s celebration.

To celebrate the upcoming 2023 Chinese New Year, the Manila City government has announced that it will be closing the Jones Bridge as well as the Intramuros-Binondo Bridge. This is due to the adjacent Chinese New Year Countdown Pyromusical event, where the bridges in question will be used as a viewing platform of sorts.

The said closure for Jones Bridge is scheduled on January 21, 2023. For the southbound lane going towards Intramuros, it will be closed from 7 p.m. onwards. For the northbound lane heading towards Binondo meanwhile, it will then be closed starting 10 p.m.

For the larger Intramuros-Binondo Bridge, traffic will then be closed for both northbound and southbound routes starting at 12:01 a.m. on the same date, January 21.

Do note that the two-lane historic Jones Bridge and the Intramuros-Binondo Bridge are major traffic routes in the City of Manila. That said, their closures might lead to traffic in some areas of the city.

The Manila City Government Public Information Office also encouraged motorists to find alternate routes due to the closure in question.

No specific alternate routes were provided though, but do remember that there are a number of other nearby bridges running parallel with the Jones Bridge and the Intramuros-Binondo Bridge. The closest one is the MacArthur Bridge.

Remember that the Jones Bridge is one of the major entry points from the south portion of Manila City to Binondo. Binondo, for those unaware, is a district referred to as Manila’s Chinatown. Binondo in fact, the oldest Chinatown in the world with its date of establishment traced all the way back to 1594.

So with a lot of Filipino-Chinese-owned businesses and residents, it is only proper that the picturesque Chinese New Year pyromusical event will be held in the area. And there might be no better way to view the said event than by the historic bridge running over Pasig River.

Are you one of the thousands of Pinoys who will be celebrating the Chinese New Year? Then maybe you’d want to attend this event too.
