Hyundai has taken a huge step towards achieving carbon neutrality by introducing the Xcient Fuel Cell tractor commercial vehicle (CV) in the U.S.

The Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell 6x4 tractor comes with a hydrogen powertrain as part of the Korean automaker’s plan to grow its clean technology globally. It also contributes towards fostering a cleaner and greener logistics solution.
“We firmly believe that hydrogen is one of the most powerful and pragmatic solutions for achieving our vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’ with emission-free mobility as a fundamental pillar for a sustainable society,” said Ken Ramirez, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Commercial Vehicle and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Business at Hyundai Motor.
In terms of dimensions, the Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell tractor is 8,788 mm long, 2,591 mm wide, and 4,089 mm tall. It also has a gross combination weight and wheelbase rated at 37,195 kg and 5,664 mm, respectively.
Propelling this Hyundai CV is a 180 kW fuel cell stack consisting of two 90 kW hydrogen fuel cell systems and a 350 kW e-motor. The Xcient Fuel Cell tractor can run up to 724 km on a single charge even with a full load.

Before arriving in the U.S., the truck has already clocked more than 6.4 million km of cumulative driving in commercial operations.
“Hyundai has been focusing on hydrogen for over 20 years,” said Martin Zeilinger, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Motor’s Commercial Vehicle Development. “Our advanced fuel cell technology already is in use through various applications and especially in the commercial vehicle sector, showing its powerful performance and reliability.”
First launched in 2020, the Hyundai Xcient with the hydrogen powertrain has been made available in the U.S., Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Korea, and New Zealand. Locally, Hariphil Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) is offering the Xcient with a turbodiesel engine only.
