GAC M8 seven-seater set for Q1 2024 PH launch

GAC Motor Philippines has confirmed a Q1 2024 launch will happen for the M8. This means the Chinese automaker will soon have a contender in the larger MPV segment.

With that being said, the GAC M8 will be competing against the likes of the Peugeot Traveller and segment-favorite Toyota Alphard. The company hasn’t released the specifications for the PH-spec model just yet so we cannot see how it would fare against rivals on paper.

What we know for now is that the M8 will be arriving with an imposing exterior design underscored by the massive grille. It features sharp vertically oriented chrome slats flanked by boomerang-style headlights with similarly shaped daytime running lights (DRLs).

In overseas markets, the M8 is available with a 2+2+3 seat configuration, with the second row benefiting from captain’s chairs. We can also see massive windows and two sunroofs, which should provide a more spacious cabin feel for passengers.

A Toyota Alphard fighter is on the horizon

As for engine options, there are two available in other markets. One is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine good for 250 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, and the other is a 2.0-liter hybrid powertrain that delivers 181 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. The latter is said to be sourced from Toyota.

The pricing is yet to be known but GAC Motor Philippines said it will announce more details closer to the launch date. Another thing we want to know is whether the company has plans to bring in the Empow R after the M8. That is a more performance-oriented version of the Empow that should further broaden the local lineup.
