The covers have been lifted off the Ford GT Mk IV, and it has been revealed as an ultra-limited, track-only supercar. To describe it in a few words, its creators have called it as the “most extreme track-only Ford GT ever.”
The Ford GT Mk IV
Looks-wise, the only thing that ties this to the mass-production Ford GT is the sharp, long-slung silhouette and the carbon fiber material for the body. It does get the same LED daytime running lamps while omitting the pair of headlamp clusters.
The large lower vent is also flanked by large air intakes which are markedly smaller on the regular Ford GT. Also more prominent is its front skirt, and it gets the addition of canards as well.
The silhouette from the side is likewise maintained. Then again, it has a set of additional nooks and crannies that will ensure that air is fed to the large wing sitting in the rear. Also, its tires are Michelin Pilot Sport racing slicks, wrapped around a set of center-lock wheels that themselves come with a smooth, aerodynamic, and rather minimalist design. Also absent from this car are side mirrors.
It also has a longer wheelbase compared to the regular Ford GT
Not much has been revealed about the Ford GT Mk IV interior, but we can imagine that it matches the visual flair of the exterior. We can also expect, however, that some cabin elements of the regular GT might be absent on this model for weight savings.
Powering this track-only Ford is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that’s capable of producing over 800 horsepower. Not much has been revealed about this powertrain as of yet, but that’s a massive power bump over the 2020 Ford GT’s 660 ponies. Power is then managed by what Ford describes as a “racing transmission.” Again, the Blue Oval is still mum on details regarding this.
Also present on this limited-edition car is a new suspension system dubbed as the Adaptive Spool Valve suspension courtesy of Multimatic. Combined with the engine, the “proper racing gearbox”, and the “truly radical body”, Ford promises that this vehicle will provide “unprecedented level of performance.”
Yes, that huge rear wing is fixed
Do note that while only 67 of these track beasts will be made, it will also be the Ford GT’s last hurrah. That’s right, this one’s the final send-off for the current generation GT.
If one wants to experience what the Ford GT Mk IV is offering, then be prepared to fork over $1.7 Million. That’s around Php 77 million at current exchange rates, and before taxes and other fees. Sounds expensive, but that’s the price you have to pay for getting into the cockpit of the third-gen Ford GT’s “amazing swan song.”
