The bridge is now 93 percent complete.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPHW) never ceases to build more roads and bridges that should help lessen the infamous traffic, especially in Metro Manila. One of its latest projects is the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge which is set to be opened to the public this July 2021.

With a project cost of Php 1.46 billion, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge is a 506.46-meter pre-stressed concrete rigid frame bridge that can accommodate motorists with its four-lane road structure, connecting the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong.

Once completed, the bridge is expected to accommodate about 50,000 vehicles per day, reducing travel time between the two said cities to just 12 minutes. This project replaced the temporary two-lane truss bridge that was dismantled last 2019.

The bridge should be operational by July 2021

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the bridge is entering its final phase at 93 percent complete. Some of the works that need to be done to meet the target completion date include the installation of the following: lane markings, protective barrier, railings, pipes for the stormwater drainage structure, and lightings.

The construction and other miscellaneous activities of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge were inspected by Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil Sadain, together with UPMO Road Management Cluster 1 Project Director Benjamin A. Bautista, Bureau of Construction Director Aristarco Doroy, and more.

Inspections were conducted around the bridge

Strict safety protocols were implemented by the government agency in the construction site to help curb the COVID-19. These safety measures including taking the temperature of every worker who enters the site, disinfecting works sites and common areas, enforcing the safe distancing rule, reducing the number of people who travel in the same vehicle to and from the site.

“As we wrap up the works, we’d like to thank the motorists, affected stakeholders in this project area, and the local government units for their continued patience and support,” said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.
